I think one can regret something while still believing it was the best course of action at the time. I regret what I did to survive in Ashenden, but I wouldn't change it. It was wrong, but it was also necessary.

To his eyes, Alaska looks a lot like Montana. There are tall mountains and endless forests and large mammals and it all looks so much less domesticated than even the most rural parts of England. He wonders if that's the appeal for Jacob.]
[Jacob doesn't mind the chatter. As long as he can get away with a few grunts of acknowledgement or short answers, he's happy enough. But he does let Norton know that he's right. He likes these shows because he wants to be there. If he can't be in nature, he'll do this.]
Although I will point out that I routinely ask if you want anything and this is the first I've heard about a television. You can ask me to do things without it being begging. Plenty of very butch people have asked me to do things for them in a manner that was not at all like begging.
Anyhoo, I'll ask the Admiral for a television and a..Dee-Vee-Dee player. Also in a commanding, not begging sort of way. I think the Admiral likes it when I'm a bit forceful.
