"Throwing bait out to see what I can see. Maybe I can net something good," he explains, planting his feet firmly. "You want to hold the pole for me?" He smirks, glancing past her at Astarion. "I know your pole handling skills are top notch."
"Lifetimes of practice," Astarion drawls, but checks that their slow drift isn't going to take them anywhere untoward before sauntering over. "It's all the wrist. Is it really just a matter of holding it?"
He steps away from her to give himself some room, then casts the line out and plants his feet. "Passive my ass," he grumbles good naturedly. "You have to get a good cast and then you reel it in. Unless you're using a bobber like a child."
The electricity seems to shimmer in the darkness, which catches Jacob's eye almost immediately. He chuckles but waits for the answer. He has the same question.
"I haven't taken anyone's life with it unless they were already on their
last legs," Astarion replies. "I imagine it could kill some of the smaller
things in the water and deeply aggravate everything else."
Astarion always has something sharp on his person - it's a wonder neither
of his lovers have lost a finger while undressing him - so he simply nods
and heads over to what passes for the steering of this very simple vessel.
It takes a little bit of brute force - not something he's accustomed to -
before the boat starts to do as Jacob asks.
"Yours, and you can tell me to sit down and shut up if you want," she informs him, knowing that even though she means it - she would sit down and shut up - he won't.
She sets instead to unplugging lights as asked, and then comes back over to drop down beside Jacob on the deck.
He chuckles because she's right - both in her words and her thoughts. The last thing he wants is for her to sit down and shut up.
The lights go out and Jacob stays where he is, watching the shadows from the faint light of the moon and stars. There are fish attracted to the bait that they set out; Jacob can hear them under the surface. He tenses a little in anticipation and grins at Rosita in the darkness.
"Do that spark again," he tells Astarion softly. "Or flame. It might be just enough light to catch a glimpse of what's down there."
Astarion nods, crouches down and casts the spell, a ball of flame appearing over the palm of his hand in preparation to be thrown. He just lets it hover, the light not bright enough to spook the fish but enough to make clearer some of the shapes moving around beneath the water's surface.
Despite himself, he finds himself sharing in Jacob's anticipation of action to come.

"I can make things more efficient if you get very bored," he says, then calls up Shocking Grasp, sparks of electricity dancing across his fingertips.

sneaks in out of order

"Mm, not much? I can control how long I spend grabbing the thing I want to electrocute, but that's about it."
Immediately jail

here have one more so we can get back to our previous order!
Date: 2025-04-24 11:04 am (UTC)Astarion considers this.
"Then I'll usually retire to a safe distance and use a bow instead."

"Alright. Turn out the lights except one if you can. And Astarion, turn us in a wide arc around where Ro put the bait. And - grab something sharp."
